Puffins Galore

Today we trekked our to the dramatic Latrabjarg cliffs where puffins, kitty wakes, razorbills, and guillemots raise their young. Our guide, Gugga, spent the day with us telling us some Icelandic folk stories and singing some Icelandic songs. We stopped to hike along some 200-year-old cairns (piles of rock that mark trails), which was followed by a drive along a narrow winding road through the clouds, ending at the misty and cold red sand beach. We’re starting to understand why Iceland has inspired so much poetry and literature, from visitors and natives alike.

Tomorrow we board a ferry to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, to spend three days in Stykkisholmur, our last town before we return to Reykjavik for the weekend. But let’s not think about the end of the trip yet!
