Journey to the Peninsula

We’ve arrived in the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, that bulge you see in the western center of Iceland. It’s often called a microcosm of Iceland because you can find most of what Iceland has to offer on this relatively small peninsula. Before getting on the ferry to come here, we had to stop at another hot spring, and some brave souls even jumped in the ocean afterward. The long ferry ride delivered beautiful views of dozens of islands, most of which are uninhabited. Once we got settled into our guest house we did a climb to the top of Helgafell rock. The tradition is to hike to the top in silence, never looking over your shoulder. Once you reach the top you face east and make three wishes. We aren’t supposed to say what our wishes were but one thing we can say is that the Snaefellsness Peninsula is an exciting new landscape to continue our exploration of Iceland.
