Today was our sunniest day in Iceland and it was a good one. We took a small boat out to sea and fished for cod, which we caught a lot of! In total we caught over 20 fish, not counting the little ones we had to throw back. In some cases we would drop a line in and have a fish on before it hit the bottom. We also boated around a rock inhabited by puffins and other sea birds, and learned more about their behaviors and migratory patterns. After fishing we went to the nearby restaurant where they prepared our fish for us. We also got a chance to visit Dritvik, a black sand beach known for its lifting-stones, which were used to measure a fisher’s strength.
Before that we checked out a Saxholl, a crater from a volcano that erupted 4,000 years ago. We’ve learned that you can’t drive more than a few seconds in Iceland without seeing something to explore.
