Our First Big Hike and a Beautiful Reward

Today we left Reykjavik to head northward for the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, where we encountered an even more dramatic landscape and very few people living on it. We will get to explore more of this region in the coming days, but for now we are enthralled by the scene just outside our guesthouse! We look over a grassy meadow at the ocean and a snow-capped volcano on the horizon, and can take it all in from the warmth of a jacuzzi on our back porch! The owner Laila and her family were so happy to show us around their beautiful property, and for dinner she cooked us a huge helping of homestyle pasta and salad.

We feel so lucky to be here, and the afternoon of relaxation was much needed after an active morning. On the way to get here, we took on our first big hike of the trip. It was a steep and rocky climb to view Glymur Waterfall, the tallest falls in Iceland. The hike wasn’t easy, but views along the way were very rewarding, and it’s getting us fit for more hikes to come. We can’t wait to explore more of the Snaefellsness Peninsula tomorrow!
